Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system - comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. The functioning of the craniosacral system can be indicative of physical and emotional restrictions in the body.

CST works to improve the functioning of the central nervous system. Through subtle manipulations of the bones of the head, the spine, and the sacrum, CST releases restrictions in the meninges, dural tubes, and other fascial systems in the body. It can relieve pain and improve mobility, as well as address a number of other issues, including:

I incorporate CST into many pelvic care sessions and Somatic Experiencing sessions. During a craniosacral session you may experience sensations such as tingling, warmth, or fascial stretching. While these often occur in the area of touch, it is common to also experience them in areas distal from where we are working.

The gentleness of CST in part of its success- we use such light pressure that we are able to work with the tissues of the body without causing patterns of guarding and tension to light up.
